Dolly Parton once said, "To say you're a breast cancer survivor doesn't mean that you have a long life ahead of you."
Perhaps the key to longer life should be some reflection on what makes life a long life.
The quality of life might be the more important attribute than years of life.
Perhaps what most Americans, Canadians, Australians and others are doing to get a longer life is to create a more meaningful, satisfying and purposeful life.
Of course, we'll be reading books, writing letters, making memories, planting trees and gardens.
But whatever it is, it's the living that's the important part of the human experience.
So whether it's the physical and mental challenges of health and fitness, or the social and emotional challenges of love, family, faith and work, the most meaningful and productive and satisfying lives must be lived.
And that's the part that we all should be helping to create.
